It has been confirmed Yarmouth Broadband, the community led high speed rural broadband project, will go live in April 2012.
Brian Friend, Chairman of Natural Enterprise who secured the funding and will run the service, said “we are delighted that a much improved broadband service will now be available to Yarmouth and surrounding areas. It has been a long journey to get to this point but thanks to our partners and supporters our vision of providing faster broadband to rural communities is to become a reality”
Yarmouth Broadband is a community project offering speeds 2-3 times faster than current providers and the more people who subscribe, the cheaper the service will become. Cash benefits have been set up to go to the local schools and there is no cap on download capacity, but importantly the service is professional and provided by local companies.
Graham Biss Managing Director of Natural Enterprise added "Rural broadband is one of Natural Enterprise’s key priorities and we have worked hard to get to this stage. Our aim continues to be to set up the service in Yarmouth and then roll it out across other rural areas on the Island. Our ability to do this is determined by demand and we would encourage everyone to sign up to the campaign being run by the Isle of Wight Council
Visit the IW Council website or see our Yarmouth Broadband website for further details.
With demand on the internet increasing Yarmouth Broadband will ensure Yarmouth and other rural communities are not left behind and are in a position to move with emerging technologies.
